Just to update anyone who happens to want to know what we have been up to since we lived in Little Elm!
We moved to Edinboro, PA from Little Elm, Texas. We were there two years, until 2004 Herb worked for Edinboro University. He didn't like the 7 months of snow. We had 24 total feet of snow our second winter. He also didn't like all the union redtape he had to deal with at the University.
So, he bagan an aggressive job search and we ended up in San Angelo, Texas in 2005. Dusty, Windy, Barren, Brown, West Texas. Ugh. Herb worked for Angelo State Univeristy. We thought we'd probably retire there, but you know what we get for thinking! We built our dream home and 3 months after we moved in, Angelo State asked Herb for his resignation. What a bomb that was. We were shocked. I mean, it was out of the blue, no indication whatsoever. They gave him a nice severance package and I was working as the church secretary, so we had income for a little while. Time passed and no buyers on the house, Herb was barely getting any bites for interviews, then, he came down with pneumonia.
Finally, the Lord opened the door for a job in Springfield, Missouri for him. He became the Dean of Enrollment of Cox Health Nursing. It was not his dream job, but we were running out of unemployment, and just about to the end of 'our own resources.' We moved to Springfield and rented a little duplex. Almost immediately, he saw red flags with his boss and we knew within a few months we probably were looking at another move. Meantime, I also got a job with Cox Health, but my job was awesome. I worked in the Family Medicine Residency Program of the hospital.
Herb finally got an email one day from a VP of Montreat College where he had applied. Montreat is a nice small Christian College nestled in the hills of Western North Carolina. The email was awesome! Charlie sounded like he'd known us all his life. Turns out, a couple we both worked with at a small Christian college in Northern California, Simpson, now work at Montreat! AND, he knows Herb's old boss from Simpson, AND, he also knew another couple from Simpson. So right off the bat, we had 5 excellent references before he even got an interview. I knew as soon as I read Charlie's email that Herb had the job. So, we both came to North Carolina for the interview so I could see the area too. We both fell in love with North Carolina.
Herb got the job and almost 1 year to the day that we moved to Springfield, we were packing once again and moving to Asheville, North Carolina! We lived in Asheville for 6 months in an apartment, but have now purchased our DREAM home, a 50 year old beautiful home, in Marion, NC. Herb loves Montreat. He is the VP of Marketing and Enrollment. Financially, we are challenged because I am having a hard time finding work in this little town. But, we're going to be okay because this is where the Lord brought us and HE is always faithful!
